“ANDY WARHOL: REVELATION” AT BROOKLYN MUSEUM: NEW YORK

November 19, 2021 - June 19, 2022

Andy Warhol is one of the 20th century’s most prolific artists, whose work shaped the Pop Art movement as we know it today. Warhol is known for his insightful, often witty, riffs on the nuances of modern society, consumerism, and celebrity, but it is rare for an exhibition to focus so keenly on Warhol’s personal life and personal beliefs. ‘Andy Warhol: Revelation’ explores the artist’s relationship with faith, from his Byzantine Catholic upbringing to the religious imagery that appears in a selection of his works.

The collection of works exhibited at ‘Revelation’ include Catholic iconography re-appropriated into modern consumerism, Renaissance imagery, and deep exploration of the relationship between feminism, queer theory, and religion. Highlights of the collection include paintings from Warhol’s Last Supper series (1986) and the unfinished film The Chelsea Girls (1966).
