“THE KID: THE FUTURE IS OLD” AT MOCO: AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS
November 19, 2020 - July 31, 2021
This is the first solo exhibition of works by up-and-coming contemporary artist THE KID in the Netherlands. THE KID is already recognised internationally for his thought-provoking work that unflinchingly delves into social issues, pushing the boundaries of modern art and giving voice to the marginalised individual. In this exhibition, THE KID gives a characteristically sharp insight into modern issues surrounding power, privilege, and the failures of democracy, and questions the responsibility and pressure on young people across the world to shape a better future.
‘The Future is Old’ draws crowds with its strikingly realistic portraits of beautiful, youthful faces and a bright future, which on closer examination, reveal stories of struggle, pain, and discrimination. THE KID’s work brings together the painting and sculpting styles of the Old Masters with modern motifs and social commentary, condensing the polarised global world of the 21st century into captivating portraits.
